I decided that one of my goals for this year is to do something creative/crafty each month. I had this idea in December so when I made my Christmas list (we did a gift exchange and everyone had to do a list) I put several crafty things on there. Between my birthday and Christmas gifts I ended up getting 3 paint-by-numbers, a 3-D puzzle of the Hogwarts castle and a little mini magic shop that has to be put together.
January I put together the castle. It was fun to put together and not too difficult (though I did have my moments of not being great at puzzles). I like how it came out and it's now in my office on my dresser.
February's project was my first paint-by-number. I got one "easy" and two "moderate" difficulty.
After doing the easy one, I'm a little scared for the moderate.
It was fun to do but I am annoyed by the fact that you can see the numbers through many of the paint colors. Lots of areas have like 3 coats! I did a little research and hopefully have some plans to make it work better in the future.
It looks pretty good from a distance but not so much up close.
Anyway, I think I might get a frame for my laundry room where I can hang each painting after I do them. Right now it's hanging up in the laundry room with painter's tape and it occasionally falls down.
I am now working on March's craft.
The miniature magic shop!
I had started in in February but realized I needed some tools so I put it away and did the painting instead.
I got my tools and I've been working on the little room for awhile now. Turns out tiny furniture and decorations are pretty fiddly to work with. My final results on most of the furniture is a bit less good looking than the picture. Lots of glue everywhere.
But it's pretty fun.
Here's the furniture I have done so far.
I've reached the point of the electrical so I'm feeling a bit out of my depth but I will persevere.
I finally finished the magic shop! It's pretty cute and the lights actually work.
April's Crafty project was to cut and sew my current quilt to fit our new bed. We bought a bed with drawers in the base so I can't have the sides of the quilt hanging down over the drawers. It wasn't too hard to do but, per usual, I made a few mistakes that made it harder. First thing I did was pick out the wrong side of the quilt (top instead of side) so I ended up picking out way more than needed. I did get it done though and it works just great on the bed!
I don't know if what I'm counting for May is officially "crafty" but I'm counting it because it's been a busy month! I planted a bunch of different flowers in my little backyard garden. Then Frank and I decided to place some bushes along our back fence. We purchased, hauled, dug holes and planted 11 bushes! It was hard work and even though I did help a lot, it was much more work for Frank. The bushes look great though and our yard is really coming together.
